The Solo Female Traveler
My name is Sophie Mendel, and I’m a 25-year-old graduate of the University of Michigan (Go Blue!), currently residing in Chicago, Illinois, USA. I have traveled to over 40 countries, am fluent in two languages and in the process of learning two more, and I absolutely live to travel.
On more than a few occasions I have found myself facing the same dilemma: I’ve made plans to travel the world with someone, and at the last minute they bail out, leaving me either to go it alone or not go at all. On each one of these occasions I never hesitated to make the same decision: GO! Though the setback of losing your expected travel partner really never gets easier, I have finally become accustomed to traveling alone and have grown to love and even prefer it.
Because of these fateful experiences being left to fend for myself and adventure alone, I’ve gained a unique perspective on travel and the world in general. Having to be, and then choosing to be, a solo female traveler has shaped my outlook on what it means to experience the world, and is the inspiration behind this blog. Traveling is what I know, what I love, and is the passion that fuels me to go see what’s out there and discover what this amazing world and its places, peoples, and cultures have to offer.
I hope that through writing this I can inspire other travelers and non-travelers alike to seek the unknown, be brave, and dive fearlessly into adventure. The world is fantastic, go see for yourself.
